Mona T. Van Riper Sterling Katrina Buckle

A Katrina buckle by famous Santa Fe artist Mona T. Van Riper. La Katrina is one of the popular Mexican names for death and the marigold flower in her hat is the “death flower” that actually celebrates life. She is often depicted with the flower in her Victorian hat, as Mona has done here, and is associated with Day of the Dead. Sterling hand made and hand engraved buckle with blue turquoise eyes, two rhodolite garnets and a amethyst stone and a very difficult to do raised image, rope edge. 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" and for a 1 1/2" belt. Mint condition. I might keep this one for myself.
